Dr. Nader Riad participated as chairman of CEEBA in the 5th International Conference & Exhibition for Environmental Technologies, Services & Funding, which was held under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ahmed Nazif , Prime Minister of Egypt , at Cairo International Conference Center, from 21. – 23. May 2007.

Dr. Riad’s speech focused on the relationship between the trade and environment agendas, as well as grasp of the direction of the multilateral trading system. Dr. Riad mentioned that in the GATT, the word “environment” was seldom heard in trade circles (except when they talked about “the trading environment”). He added that the placing of trade and environment issues on the WTO’s agenda and the introduction of sustainable development as one of the WTO’s aims has helped to raise awareness internationally and nationally of the need to maximize synergies between trade and environment policies. Dr. discussed also the impact of environment of trade and the impact of trade on environment noting that today there is an improved understanding of the trade environment link. Environment has become an international consensus; as well as a consumer demand.
