This article discusses The People’s Assembly, lower house of parliament, which recently passed the long-awaited Competition Protection and Anti-Monopoly Law to control the market and eliminate any monopolistic practices. The law will be implemented by a specialized body with an independent budget. The People’s Assembly was the scene of heated debates on the law provisions before the final approval. This was on the grounds that the law controls the market and confronts monopolistic practices that harm competition between producers of commodities and services in a market economy.
