The other aspect of Egypt’s wealthy investors’ lives: Important social role, service projects… Yet, the media portrays a bad picture of them Major businessmen: We owe the poor a duty… So, let’s compete for charitable deeds. The media is the primary source defaming the businessman’s image in the eyes of ordinary citizens. Even satellite Television channels have been known to host businessmen on their programs, taking every opportunity to fiercely scrutinize them. ( Available in Arabic – German in PDF )
Some TV channels businessmen are not even allowed to be featured. Although the real businessman is a model of success for the rest of society, it seems that our society dislikes individual who are positive role models. Inspite of some negative exposure, many have done good things for their communities. A businessman is not obliged to do charitable deeds or contribute to any voluntary work, as long as he fulfills his duty to the state by paying his taxes. Despite many efforts being made by many businessmen in the field of social work, these are still carried out individually and do not take the collective and institutional form which can give such efforts a greater role and a deeper impact.
