The file discusses the need to improve the fire response in Egypt, and to better equip buildings to address fire, particularly buildings where people gather, such as malls and cafes. Dr. Hossam El Barameely, Professor of Architecture at Ain Shams University comments on a recent fire at City Stars Mall, noting that he was not surprised to hear of the news. He points to the design of the buildings, and their lack of coherent escape routes in case of a fire, or the miscalculation of capacity when designing escape routes. He underlines the importance of installing reliable methods of fire detection and prevention, and the need to stay updated on such issues.
