This study dealt with the challenges facing Egyptian industry on the local level, during the current stage, and in the coming one. The study identified ten challenges that are related to quality and production, ineffectiveness of the control systems, and the absence of a specific plan for the advancement of local industries. This study reviewed ten challenges facing Egyptian industry, on the local level, during the current stage, and the coming one. These challenges are: Lack, by Egyptian industry, of international quality and control systems, slowness of the growth rate of industrial exports, high customs and tax charges, absence of a specific plan for small and medium size industries, negligence of the environmental dimension in industry, absence of advantages to Egyptian industrialists (compared to foreign industrialists), flow of smuggled foreign goods and products, a gap in engineering designs, and in development and equipments, mediocrity of engineering designs development and of manufacturing capital equipments, shortage of the role of scientific research, and of development of technology, and incapability of human resources programs to satisfy industry demands. The study also calls for a development strategy, for an increase of exports, and for adequate marketing policies.
