In the first meeting of the National Democratic Party with the civil society, the Federation of Egyptian Industries on 22/6/2006 discussed expanded symposium papers on health insurance policies and health care to implement the electoral program of President Hosni Mubarak. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Gamal Mubarak, -General Policies Secretary, in the National Democratic Party, Dr.. Hatem el Gabaly Minister of Health, Dr.. Hossam Badrawi , secretary of the business sector and the President of the National Federation of Egyptian Industries and a group of industrialists and businessmen. ( Available in Arabic )
Mr. Gamal Mubarak emphasized that the new system of health insurance will cover every citizen throughout Egypt, and the aim is to address the problems of the current system of health insurance. He said that the vision of the party based on the health indicators is evolving, including having spent 25 billion pounds on infrastructure for health since 1981, and the increase of the life expectancy by 54%, and reduction of mortality and the eradication of endemic diseases . The Minister of Health and Population said that the financing of the health insurance will be through the three parties , being participation in the payment of contributions and taxes and insurance premiums. For his part, Dr.. Hamdi Al-Sayyed, said that iit is necessary to re-consider the hundreds of millions of pounds spent in the buildings at the hospital, while 40% of state hospital beds are empty. Dr. Hossam Badrawi, head of the Business sector secretariat said that the philosophy of the National Democratic Party tends to need on development targeting the poor, and that it is their right to obtain high quality service. Mr. Jalal El Zorba President of the Federation of Egyptian Industries said the new system of health insurance is of great importance to the Egyptian industry, as factory workers are the beneficiaries of the project.
