Egypt’s minister of industry and technological development called for boosting Egyptian-German economic relations and for setting up full partnerships between the two countries. Egypt and Germany are already cooperating, with big joint projects currently underway. Mahmoud Mohieldin said that Egypt’s deficit and economic performance had improved over the last year, while the minister of industry and technological development stressed that Egypt was indeed trying to boost its international relations. An important role in this regard is played by the German Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACIC). It supports German businesses in Egypt and helps Egyptian exports get access to foreign markets, especially the EU. The GACIC has issued a report saying the Egyptian economy is still in a state of recession, but it should ebb away next year.
