In the late 50s, Egypt was running the world’s fifth largest securities market. The 80s painted a different picture with the Egyptian economy exhausted by wars. President Mubarak had a vision of steering the economic wheel toward an integrated economy. He launched a reform program enabling Egypt to deal with world changes in the 21st century. The State prepared a suitable climate for industrial development and investment. Economic development was made a priority as it pulls it weight in international circles.
