This article discusses the recent developments of assisting small projects in Egypt to help boost industries. In his recent speech at the opening of the new parliamentary session, President Mubarak reemphasized the need of supporting and encouraging small projects to provide new job opportunities. The People’s Assembly asked the government to quickly prepare the law on small projects in preparation for submitting it to the Assembly in the new session. Though the problems and solutions to the small projects are well-known and several bodies have discussed them, and a draft law was laid down to develop and legalize them, we currently raise the problems of small projects and review the features of the small and medium-sized projects law. The General Federation for Economic Development Associations, under the leadership of Dr. Fouad Thabet, has contributed to drawing up this law as well as a number of lawmakers. Dr. Nader Riad, Advisor to the People’s Assembly Committee on Industry and Energy and chairman of the new committee on small industries at the Federation of Industries, stressed the importance of small projects in the economic development process, stating “these industries ensure better distribution of wealth in the working market and services, which could lead Egyptian villages to become more productive in addition to providing practical solutions to unemployment issues”.
