In this article, Dr . Nader Riad response to the question of what is happening during the first ten minutes which represent the critical period of the fire flare up inside one of the factories.(Available in Arabic – German in PDF)
Dr. Nader Riad pointed out that it is very different between the case of qualified factories in facing fire with self-operating systems, self- with an integrated level and the factories that do not apply this code and depend on the hand extinguishers devices and means operated by individuals either inside the building or outside . We will focus on fight against the fire inside and outside the industrial building by the members of the fire department and industrial security in their industries or by the workers themselves. Dr. Nader Riad point out that the fire inside the factories differs from fires in open places where heat leaks to the surrounding space without creating a direct burden on persons in the place The risk in factories is very rapid due to the retention of heat and smoke inside the building which represent a burden on human capacity which limit from approaching to fire and the direct control and that is beyond the first three minutes, which is what was agreed to be called the three critical three minutes in which control the fire is determined. The article continuous of the escalation of risk with the time factor in the industrial establishments fires until the tenth minute and he stressed the importance of providing the appropriate material that suppresses the fire must be provided and the flow rates this material to suppress the fire in a limited term so the building will not be exposed deterioration and will not be valid for industrial use.
