A conference for Consumer Protection was held on 21- 22 October 1995, under the slogan „Protection of Consumer and National Economy Organization“ by the respected Dr. Atef Sedki, Prime Minister and Ahmed Gowaili, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade. Dr. Nader Riad spoke during the first session of the conference. The conference centered on four pivots: Duties and rights of the consumer, responsibilities and roles of official bodies, non-governmental organizations and protection of the consumer in the services field.(Available in Arabic – German in PDF )
The conference was attended by businessmen, industrialists, academics and specialists. During the two day conference many topics were discussed such as: Determining fields of consumer protection in Egyptian markets, effects of implementing market mechanisms and developing the private sector’s role in protecting the consumer, analysis of non-governmental organizations roles for protecting the consumer, in addition to discussing laws, policies and procedures regulating protection of the consumer.
