Each day we witness and hear about fires erupting in factories and building that were built without licenses and without the supervision of local industrial and civil protection departments. An official report stresses the facts that 90% of factories that were built ignored utilizing modern systems for fire protection. In the meanwhile, Engineer Rashed Mohamad Rashed, Minister of Commerce and Industry, has issued an act that would make it compulsory for industrial establishments to have fire protection equipment available. This is also in addition to observing the measures of security, safety and health. There is a great need to reconsider the Egyptian Code of Protection against Fire Dangers which was issued late enough in 1998. Many Arab countries have advanced further than us in respect to this, such as the Gulf countries, which make it compulsory in every home to own a domestic fire extinguisher.
