President Mubarak’s announcement over peaceful nuclear power in Egypt raises the debate over energy sources. The country’s ambitious development plans require more and more energy, and this and other factors may finally push Egypt to think seriously about resorting to renewable resources and not only nuclear energy or fossil fuels. President Mubarak has announced Egypt’s plans for peaceful production of nuclear energy. The country has ambitious development plans for the future, but they require more and more energy. Despite having plenty of sunshine, Egypt very poorly relies on solar energy and other kinds of clean renewable power. Yet, soaring oil prices, an ever-increasing demand for energy, the possible future conflicts because of the black gold, and climate change across the globe may make the country change its mind. Projects for solar and wind energy production are being studied.
