A project was approved to develop the Technical Institute of Optics in Matariya so that it could catch up with its foreign counterparts. One of the main pillars of this project is the establishment of an Excellence Center. Furthermore, new methods are needed not only to teach and train students, but also to update the Institute‘ staff, also thanks to a twinning with Berlin’s school of optics. A project was approved to develop the Technical Institute of Optics in Matariya so that it could catch up with its foreign counterparts. This project relies on the twinning between this institute and Berlin’s school of optics, and the former can indeed benefit from the school’s educational programs. The Institute still lags behind its partner. The main idea to raise its standards is to establish and later expand an Excellence Center, while teaching methods and curricula must also be reviewed. This project has objectives on the short, medium and long run. Some of them have been achieved so far, and they all contribute to the final goal, i.e. forming outstanding graduates qualified to meet the requirements of the local and international markets in the field of optics.
