In this study, Dr. Nader Riad talks about insurance and risk management, and depicts them as fundamental factors to achieve industrial development. He stresses the important role that civil society organizations (CSOs) can play in this field, and illustrates how one of these organizations – the association of insurance companies (AIC) – works in a country like Australia. Over there, the AIC is responsible for allowing a car to be licensed and insured and for monitoring drivers‘ records. Dr. Riad calls for a similar system to be applied in Egypt, too, where some positive results in this regard have already been achieved thanks to the new traffic law. He also stresses the importance of applying the Australian method to any kind of facilities and not only vehicles, as he believes this would make them safer and would also create more job opportunities.
