Some of Egypt’s Coptic businessmen lashed out at The Sunday Telegraph for making allegations about Copts being oppressed in Egypt. They stressed Egypt’s long history and unity and denied Copts suffered from any oppression or discrimination. They acknowledged that some sectarian incidents had indeed occurred, but only because of some individuals’ misbehavior. They also affirmed that those who made these kind of allegations, generally speaking, were those who had failed to achieve anything positive in Egypt and had eventually decided to travel abroad. As for the business sector, they stressed more than once that Egypt’s Muslims and Copts invested together and had been partners – like in ordinary life – for centuries.
