The Cairo Chamber of Commerce has come up with a list of amendments to the anti-monopoly bill. Dr. Nader Riad illustrates them. The Cairo Chamber of Commerce has come up with a list of amendments to the anti-monopoly bill. First, as Dr. Nader Riad explains, the name of the bill should be changed so as to express clearly the main objective of this piece of legislation (regulating competition more than fighting monopoly). The definition of “control” (i.e., monopoly) should also be better explained, and the law should state clearly what should be done by those who are in control of a share of the market which exceeds the limits set by the law. Finally, the new law should not inflict corporal punishments or confiscations on those breaking its provisions; instead, it should just level fines.
