Dr. Riad discusses the implementation of codes to protect Egyptian citizens. • The Egyptian fire code was introduced 20 years after that of the Emirates. The fire code also lacked housing insurance and the connecting of gas pipes. • Dubai, Qatar and Bahrain took the lead by making it compulsory for every home to have a fire extinguisher installed. This step was taken to materialize safety for inhabitants and their neighborhood from the dangers of fire. It is well known that fire can easily move from one house to another, expanding away from the original source. Therefore, negligence in handling fire flames lead to inevitable accidents. • Today, Egypt is witnessing increasing rates of natural gas pipelines being connected to homes. This goes hand in hand with an increasing percent of fire risks which typically start in the kitchen. Indications reflect a rising rate in using gas pipes which carry higher risks when compared to fire accidents caused by the misuse of gas cylinders.
