The most important element in developing an economic system, whether industrial or commercial is standards. They are the gateway to improving the quality of Egyptian exports enabling them to compete with foreign commodities in the international markets. No standards results in the spread of unlicensed products that could threaten the health and life of citizens.(Available in Arabic – German in PDF)
The issue of standards tops the list of priorities of government, especially in the economic group. Many experts, officials and businessmen in different industrial and commercial sectors agreed on the necessity of reconsidering current standards with regards to foodstuffs, drugs, auto, building materials and other sectors. New standards will be the passport to granting Egyptian products access to international markets, especially the European market. Consumer Protection agencies have been called on to promote their monitoring activities in order for all products in the market to meet the conditions of quality standards. The development of Central Labs has been stressed to be certain of the quality of commodities. New standards need to be applied to all domestic and imported commodities to ensure the safety of all commodities traded in the market and ensuring the highest levels of protection to consumers.
