Mr. Mahamed Abul Enein, Head of Investors Branch, said the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Trade to cancel dumping fees of imported iron is in favor of the construction sector, despite the fact that it is contradictory to the overall trend of protecting the national industry. Abul Enein said that the continuing to apply this decree in its current state would threaten more than 16 million workers who are affiliated with this sector. He said that Egypt does not have a steel and iron industry, but it has complementary industries for reshaping steel and iron. He called for the modernization of this industry by separating the workshops from the factories’ administration and amending the production with little investments to help upgrading this sector. The government would bear the burden of around LE 600 per ton for funding and supporting the iron industry.
