Eleven years after the German reunification, local official figures show that the great efforts made by the federal government there to advance this country have definitely paid off. Today, Germany is one of the pillars of the global economy and has strong ties with both developed and developing countries, not only politically and economically, but also culturally. Eleven years have passed since Germany’s reunification, which was welcomed both locally and internationally. Since that moment, the German state has been working hard to let the economy in the east catch up with the west. According to German statistics and figures, the efforts have definitely paid off. Today, Germany is one of the best-performing states worldwide and plays a pivotal role in the EU. Former East Germany has indeed seen an economic boom since the reunification. This country is fully involved in globalization, but it also realizes the challenges this very phenomenon poses on third world countries. In this regard, Germany has been cooperating with Egypt for years now, carrying out important projects in different fields there. The federal government pays special attention to culture, too, and allocates to this sector more money than France, the US and the UK.
