Allow me, your highness, to greet you in your personal capacity as a great learned scholar who has a great insight, can see the present, predict the future, feel the sufferings of the poor and the needy and give them a lot from heart and mind. With these words, Dr Nader Riad started his speech during his meeting with Al-Azhar Grand Imam on 5/1/2012 with the delegation of the Egyptian businessmen association in Al-Azhar premises. He pointed out to the fatwas issued everyday by some unqualified people about deeming art and singing forbidden according to sharia, in addition to a call attacking monuments, pyramids, statues and tourism, emphasizing that Al-Azhar is the only body that has the final word in different things.(Available in Arabic – German in PDF )
In his word, Dr .Nader Riad emphasized that Al-Azhar’s role was not limited throughout ages to religious affairs, yet it has played a pivotal role on the national level. This role clearly appeared at the time of bights and critical situations experienced by our dear country. All the Egyptian people, Muslims and Copts, used to seek guidance and wise decisions from Al-Azhar. He also pointed out that the nation’s sons, Muslims and Copts, rely on Al-Azhar to set the rules of Islam, the religion which is characterized by moderation and rejecting extremism, without violating principles or morals and to set the bases and define the rules that would stop corrupt people from destroying the nation. He concluded his word wishing the Grand Imam success in his great responsibilities.
